Sclerotherapy is an injectable treatment that eliminates unsightly, superficial spider veins. When the vein is destroyed, blood is rerouted to other healthier veins without disrupting blood flow.
Foam sclerotherapy is a specialized form of sclerotherapy that is best utilized for blue feeder (reticular) veins that feed smaller spider veins. Asclera is the only FDA-approved detergent sclerosant that can be foamed to achieve greater destruction of dilated veins. Dr. Lupo has been treating with sclerotherapy since 1983 and her results have been published in dermatology journals.
We offer two treatments for bothersome leg veins: injectable sclerotherapy and laser treatment. For patients with dark skin, Dr. Lupo only does sclerotherapy because the laser could cause hyperpigmentation. Other benefits of sclerotherapy vs laser in all skin types is that sclero is more cost effective and painless. Newer FDA-approved sclerosants do not sting.
