About lupocenter

Nationally acclaimed non-surgical dermatologist Since 1983, nationally acclaimed and board certified dermatologist Dr. Mary Lupo has been at the forefront of non-surgical skin rejuvenation. She began using innovative combination protocols for her patients that included collagen fillers, light chemical peels, and topical products such as Retin A and alpha hydroxy acids with sun protection to make the skin look years younger. This trend is now the cornerstone of non-surgical care along with the additions of Botox to relax hyperactive muscles. It is not the use of one particular filler or laser, but rather the application of these tools in tandem that achieve the best possible result. The years of teaching other physicians, serving on advisory boards and performing clinical trials on the latest techniques have resulted Dr. Lupo being on the cutting edge of non-surgical skin rejuvenation. Dr. Lupos is also a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Tulane Medical School. She graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1980 and did internal medicine at Ochsner Foundation before entering the dermatology program at Tulane Medical School where she served as Chief Resident in her final year and was awarded the Peterkin Award for her original research in skin lipids and inflammation in patients with atopic dermatitis. She is the past-president of the Women’s Dermatologic Society, Louisiana vice-chair for the Dermatology Foundation and member of the Annenberg Circle. She is on numerous committees for Women’s Dermatologic Society, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and American Academy of Dermatology. As director of Tulane’s Resident Cosmetic Clinic, she has taught fillers, Botox, sclerotherapy, chemical peels and laser therapies since 1984. She has been a founding director of The Cosmetic Boot Camp, an innovative CME program that teaches core aesthetic physicians the latest techniques for aging skin correction. Dr. Lupo is now a clinical instructor for Allergan, where she helped launch Juvederm to Australian physicians in 2007. She has acted as a consultant over the years for Inamed, Bristol Meyers Squibb, Playtex, Kao Brands (Jergens, Curel, Ban, and Biore), Allergan (both skin care and Botox Cosmetic divisions) Dermik, Galderma, Stiefel, Neocutis, Ortho-Neutrogena, LaRoche Posay, and Philosophy. In 1995, she founded Dr Mary Lupo Skin Care System, innovative skin care products for her patients and web clients. She is often quoted in national beauty magazines on various dermatological topics from acne to aging skin, from skin cancers to fillers and cosmeceuticals. She has appeared on E! Entertainmen, the Food Network, CNN news, and The View as well as local CBS, NBC, and ABC affiliates in New Orleans.

Employee of the Month Selects Product of the Month

Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System

Employee of the MonthCeleste Albaral is our Cosmetic Coordinator, and she has been selected by her peers as our Employee of the Month! As the Employee of the Month, Celeste has been rewarded with a skincare product of her choice: the Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System. Celeste says she loves to use the Clarisonic on a daily basis because it gives her a deeper clean than just a regular wash. She also likes how smooth her skin feels after each cleansing. We want our patients to benefit from this product as well, so during the month of March, the Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System will be 10% off for all patients.

The Clarisonic uses a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to clean, soften and smooth skin. In just 60 seconds, the brush gently, yet thoroughly removes six times more makeup and two times more dirt and oil than manual cleansing alone (see below). Removing these impurities has been shown to allow a 61% better absorption of Vitamin C and better prepares skin for other products.

Without proper cleansing, pollutants, oil and bacteria accumulate on the skin, which can lead to damaged, unhealthy skin, clogged pores, blackheads, blemishes and dullness.

Before After cleansing

When you purchase a Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System in our office, you will receive 10% off this product through March 31, 2015, while supplies last.

Get Your Ideal Lips with Restylane Silk

restylane_silk_main_2015

Everyone’s facial structure is different including their lip shape and size. “Ideal lips” are proportionate to one’s overall facial structure, where the ideal upper lip is usually about 40% of the total height of the lips and the ideal bottom lip is about 60% of the total height. In order to achieve ideal lips, some people may benefit from lip enhancement with Restylane Silk.

Restylane Silk is the first and only FDA-cleared product to enhance the mouth area by increasing the volume of patients’ lips and smoothing wrinkles.

Restylane Silk Video

On February 4, 2015, Dr. Lupo appeared on WWL to discuss the benefits of this new lip enhancer, which helps patients look younger in a subtle, natural way.

As a leader in the aesthetic dermatology community for more than 30 years, Dr. Lupo was selected by Galderma, the makers of Restylane Silk, as one of the few physicians in the country to use their new FDA-cleared injectable filler at this time. In this pre-launch phase, Dr. Lupo is using the Restylane Silk product to train other physicians and to provide feedback to the company.

Love at First Sight?

blog5Do you believe in love at first sight?  According to the study* “Looking and loving: The effects of mutual gaze on feelings of romantic love,” researchers found that when two subjects exchanged a mutual unbroken gaze for two minutes with a stranger of the opposite sex, they reported feelings of love for each other.

Turns out the old saying may be true, so keep your eyes looking young and fresh, and your Valentine will continue to fall in love with you every day!

  • Injectables, lasers and chemical peels prevent wrinkles and dark circles to keep the skin around the eyes smooth and younger looking.
  • Latisse enhances the eyes with longer, thicker lashes to create a beautiful frame.
  • Eye creams help to reduce puffiness, dark circles and fine lines.

Employee of the Month Selects Product of the Month

skin-care-prodCongratulations to Courtney, one of our front desk receptionists who primarily works at checkout, for being named our Employee of the Month! She has selected Nectifirm as the February Product of the Month. Courtney is excited to try Nectifirm because she has seen firsthand how well the product works on our patients. When patients return time and time again to purchase the product, she can see smoother, tighter skin on their neck and jawline. While Courtney is only 24, she wants to use Nectifirm as a preventative.

Nectifirm cream is formulated to help skin appear more firm and lifted, reduce the appearance of rough crepey skin and dramatically lessen the look of fine lines and wrinkles.   With a proprietary blend of bamboo, silica, English pea extract and glucosamine, these powerful ingredients are designed to rejuvenate your neck area by treating it differently than the skin on your face.  Key ingredients such as antioxidants and vitamins C and E help skin appear brighter and more even-toned.

Laser Treatment For Men And Women Eliminates Unwanted Hair

Shaving, bleaching, plucking, waxing, or trimming unwanted or excessive hair on your face or body may grow tiresome over time and may irritate your skin. That’s why we have been offering safe and effective laser hair reduction treatment for men and women since 1999.

How laser hair removal works

One of the most popular laser treatments, hair reduction and removal allows you to put away the creams, razors, and tweezers for good. Light energy targets the pigments in each hair. As the light is absorbed, it creates heat energy, which eliminates the hair follicle and stops hair growth.

To prepare for the procedure, patients are asked to refrain from waxing or plucking hairs so that the hair is present in the follicle. Shaving immediately before the treatment maximizes the effectiveness of the laser, allowing the laser energy to penetrate into the follicle to heat and destroy it.

Who is a candidate for laser hair removal?

Laser hair reduction works best on patients who wish to remove darker hairs. Because the laser focuses on pigmentation, grey, blonde, or white hairs are not responsive to treatment. Laser hair reduction effectively removes undesired hair on the face, chin, neck, back, underarm, legs, and bikini area.

How many treatments are needed?

Treatments vary by patient, pigmentation, and thickness of hair to be removed. Hair grows in cycles so the procedure is typically scheduled to address each new growth cycle for optimal results.
