About lupocenter

Nationally acclaimed non-surgical dermatologist Since 1983, nationally acclaimed and board certified dermatologist Dr. Mary Lupo has been at the forefront of non-surgical skin rejuvenation. She began using innovative combination protocols for her patients that included collagen fillers, light chemical peels, and topical products such as Retin A and alpha hydroxy acids with sun protection to make the skin look years younger. This trend is now the cornerstone of non-surgical care along with the additions of Botox to relax hyperactive muscles. It is not the use of one particular filler or laser, but rather the application of these tools in tandem that achieve the best possible result. The years of teaching other physicians, serving on advisory boards and performing clinical trials on the latest techniques have resulted Dr. Lupo being on the cutting edge of non-surgical skin rejuvenation. Dr. Lupos is also a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Tulane Medical School. She graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1980 and did internal medicine at Ochsner Foundation before entering the dermatology program at Tulane Medical School where she served as Chief Resident in her final year and was awarded the Peterkin Award for her original research in skin lipids and inflammation in patients with atopic dermatitis. She is the past-president of the Women’s Dermatologic Society, Louisiana vice-chair for the Dermatology Foundation and member of the Annenberg Circle. She is on numerous committees for Women’s Dermatologic Society, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and American Academy of Dermatology. As director of Tulane’s Resident Cosmetic Clinic, she has taught fillers, Botox, sclerotherapy, chemical peels and laser therapies since 1984. She has been a founding director of The Cosmetic Boot Camp, an innovative CME program that teaches core aesthetic physicians the latest techniques for aging skin correction. Dr. Lupo is now a clinical instructor for Allergan, where she helped launch Juvederm to Australian physicians in 2007. She has acted as a consultant over the years for Inamed, Bristol Meyers Squibb, Playtex, Kao Brands (Jergens, Curel, Ban, and Biore), Allergan (both skin care and Botox Cosmetic divisions) Dermik, Galderma, Stiefel, Neocutis, Ortho-Neutrogena, LaRoche Posay, and Philosophy. In 1995, she founded Dr Mary Lupo Skin Care System, innovative skin care products for her patients and web clients. She is often quoted in national beauty magazines on various dermatological topics from acne to aging skin, from skin cancers to fillers and cosmeceuticals. She has appeared on E! Entertainmen, the Food Network, CNN news, and The View as well as local CBS, NBC, and ABC affiliates in New Orleans.

Understanding Skin Pigmentation Problems And Causes

You are uniquely you. Just as no two people will have identical thoughts, beliefs, body shapes, or hair texture, your skin tone and pigmentation are unlike any other individual.

Understanding pigmentation

Pigmentation is the color and tone of your skin. Certain cells, named melanocytes, exist in the surface layer of the skin and produce the pigment, melanin. The level of melanin that is produced determines the color of your skin. If these cells create too much or too little melanin, skin pigmentation problems occur.

Types of pigmentation disorders

Skin disorders or problems with discoloration may affect small patches or your entire body. If your cells produce too much melanin, skin will darken. Overexposure to the sun, Addison’s disease, and hormonal changes during pregnancy can cause your skin to become darker.

If your melanin production is decreased, skin will turn lighter. Vitiligo is a skin problem that occurs when the melanocytes are destroyed, and it results in patches of white skin. Albinism is a genetic condition in which production of melanin is restricted, resulting in no pigmentation in skin, eyes, or hair.

Other factors that can affect pigmentation include the abnormal development or clustering of blood vessels, such as hemangioma and nevus flammeus, also called port wine stains. Moles, scars, burns, infections, certain health conditions, and blisters can also contribute to discoloration.

If you would like to know more about pigmentation problems and gain a better understanding about how to care for your skin, call us today for your comprehensive consultation.

Dare to Bare Your Decolletage

8th 01

We often share with you ways to improve your appearance with skin tightening of the face, neck and body, and we are now excited to specifically target the decollete as well!

The Ultherapy Decolletage Treatment utilizes imaging and micro-focused ultrasound to stimulate the natural formation of collagen and elastin in the skin’s foundation to gradually smooth the lines and wrinkles on the chest area. As with all FDA-cleared Ultherapy procedures for lifting the neck, eyebrow and under the chin, meaningful results are achieved in just one 30-60 minute treatment, and there’s no downtime or post-treatment care required. Full results are visible after about three months.

There are several factors that cause the skin on decollete to wrinkle, including age, sleep position and sun exposure.  Many patients who come to us to treat the lines and wrinkles on the decollete also want to address skin discoloration as well.  That’s because sun exposure not only causes the lines and wrinkles but also brown spots.  In order to fully treat the decollete area, we are offering a $500 savings with the purchase of a Ultherapy Decolletage Treatment, an IPL treatment for discoloration, and a NEOCUTIS BioSerum for at home maintenance of lines and discoloration.

Get Rid of Unwanted Hair Once and For All!

Let’s face it… no one enjoys daily or weekly shaving, plucking or waxing on any part of the body!  With today’s technology, it’s easy to get rid of unwanted hair for good.  Laser hair removal can be used on the face, underarms, bikini, legs, arms, back, buttocks, abdomen and breasts.  This easy, no-downtime treatment is one of the most popular laser procedure in the United States.

Laser hair removal is available for most skin types as well as most hair types including lighter brown and finer hair.  The advanced cooling system allows for a comfortable treatment and even enhances the treatment’s safety and efficacy.  While laser hair removal is mostly done to stop hair growth, many women and men find it helpful to eliminate painful, unattractive ingrown hairs. Also, since the follicle is destroyed during the procedure, patients do not have to worry about stubble or dark spots at the follicle.

Since laser hair removal is very popular these days, the procedure is usually available at med spas or large laser operation centers. Dr. Lupo warns patients that these places have no physician supervision and are no place to get a medical laser procedure. At times, medical causes of excessive facial hair are being overlooked. It is better to get a consult by a qualified board certified dermatologist who will look at you as a patient first and ask the questions that will alert for possible hormonal problems.

If you are fed up with pesky prickles, now is the time to get rid of them once and for all.  Multiple treatment sessions are necessary to eliminate all of the hair as it cycle through the individual growth stages, so schedule a consultation today to get your skin smooth before next year’s bathing suit season rolls around again.

Any patient who receives a laser hair removal treatment by October 31, 2014, will receive 10% off of the first treatment for one area.  Don’t forget to mention that you saw this in online.
