About lupocenter

Nationally acclaimed non-surgical dermatologist Since 1983, nationally acclaimed and board certified dermatologist Dr. Mary Lupo has been at the forefront of non-surgical skin rejuvenation. She began using innovative combination protocols for her patients that included collagen fillers, light chemical peels, and topical products such as Retin A and alpha hydroxy acids with sun protection to make the skin look years younger. This trend is now the cornerstone of non-surgical care along with the additions of Botox to relax hyperactive muscles. It is not the use of one particular filler or laser, but rather the application of these tools in tandem that achieve the best possible result. The years of teaching other physicians, serving on advisory boards and performing clinical trials on the latest techniques have resulted Dr. Lupo being on the cutting edge of non-surgical skin rejuvenation. Dr. Lupos is also a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Tulane Medical School. She graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1980 and did internal medicine at Ochsner Foundation before entering the dermatology program at Tulane Medical School where she served as Chief Resident in her final year and was awarded the Peterkin Award for her original research in skin lipids and inflammation in patients with atopic dermatitis. She is the past-president of the Women’s Dermatologic Society, Louisiana vice-chair for the Dermatology Foundation and member of the Annenberg Circle. She is on numerous committees for Women’s Dermatologic Society, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and American Academy of Dermatology. As director of Tulane’s Resident Cosmetic Clinic, she has taught fillers, Botox, sclerotherapy, chemical peels and laser therapies since 1984. She has been a founding director of The Cosmetic Boot Camp, an innovative CME program that teaches core aesthetic physicians the latest techniques for aging skin correction. Dr. Lupo is now a clinical instructor for Allergan, where she helped launch Juvederm to Australian physicians in 2007. She has acted as a consultant over the years for Inamed, Bristol Meyers Squibb, Playtex, Kao Brands (Jergens, Curel, Ban, and Biore), Allergan (both skin care and Botox Cosmetic divisions) Dermik, Galderma, Stiefel, Neocutis, Ortho-Neutrogena, LaRoche Posay, and Philosophy. In 1995, she founded Dr Mary Lupo Skin Care System, innovative skin care products for her patients and web clients. She is often quoted in national beauty magazines on various dermatological topics from acne to aging skin, from skin cancers to fillers and cosmeceuticals. She has appeared on E! Entertainmen, the Food Network, CNN news, and The View as well as local CBS, NBC, and ABC affiliates in New Orleans.

Dr. Lupo Warns Commuters About Possible Sun Damage While Driving

Image

Dr. Lupo was recently interviewed on New Orleans’ WDSU where she discussed how the sun can cause skin damage, even skin cancer, for drivers with long commutes.

Dr. Lupo encourages everyone to wear a minimum of SPF 40 year round, and for anyone who is in direct sunlight during the day, including commuters, she recommends SPF 60.

EYE Love You Enhancers

Even though aging is an inevitable process, we never want our eyes to say we are older than we truly are. There are several factors that cause the eyes to age prematurely, including lifestyle, emotion, sleep patterns and the environment, all of which diminishes a person’s youthful, fresh appearance.

Treat yourself to some extra love this Valentine’s Day with three new ways to say “EYE Love You.” Using one or more of our Eye Love You Enhancers – BOTOX, LATISSE and LUMIERE – you can rest assure your eyes will never reveal your true age.  During February, take advantage of our EYE Love You Specials – see below!

EYE ENHANCER 1: BOTOX

In September 2013, the FDA approved the use of Botox to treat crow’s feet, and Dr. Lupo was the only FDA investigator in Louisiana for the study of this newly approved treatment.  Crow’s feet are created by a variety of factors, but most commonly they are the result of overusing muscles while squinting or smiling. A small amount of Botox injected into the muscle around the eye will prevent the area from wrinkling when facial expressions are made.  The results give the eye area a smoother, younger look.

EYE ENHANCER 2: LATISSE

Longer, thicker lashes frame the eyes making them stand out to look more beautiful and youthful even without makeup.  Latisse is the first and only FDA-approved prescription treatment for inadequate or not enough eyelashes known as hypotrichosis.  Daily applications of Latisse will help eyelashes to grow, making them longer, thicker and darker.

EYE ENHANCER 3: NEOCUTIS LUMIERE

Everyone dreads waking up to find puffy, dark circles around their eyes.  Neocutis Lumiere is our number-one selling eye cream that reduce puffiness, dark circles and even fine lines.  This fragrance-free daily cream hydrates skin with hyaluronic acid, promotes new collagen with growth factors and uses caffeine to tighten and restrict blood vessels.

Skin Protection During The Winter Months

Image

While we may be six months away from summer, now isn’t the time to shy away from sunscreen.  Daily sunscreen use is a must year round, and extra protection is needed for those hitting the slopes this winter.  “It is essential to use sun protection during the winter months because harmful UVA rays are still present even in cold weather,” says Dr. Lupo. “Full-spectrum sun protection, at least SPF 30, should be applied daily, and it is also important to maintain your anti-aging regimen with retinoids and antioxidants or growth factors.”  See below for sunscreen specials!

While we don’t necessarily have Winter Wonderland weather here in South Louisiana, the seasonal change can still take a toll on our skin.  To combat the cooler temperatures and decreased humidity, exfoliation and extra moisturizing will help eliminate dull skin.  Avoid hot baths that can strip essential oils from the skin and always moisturize immediately after a shower.  A change in diet may also be beneficial to your skin: fish high in omega oils will help hydrate the skin from the inside, and herbal teas, such as green tea, contain antioxidants that help fight off skin-damaging free radicals.

If a good at-home skin regimen doesn’t help to eliminate dry, itchy skin caused by wintry weather, a low-level non-ablative resurfacing treatment such as a SilkPeel, light chemical peels or facials may help to brighten the skin. Pigmentation and redness, which often contributes to the appearance of dull skin, can be treated with FraxelClear+Brilliant, IPL and Laser Genesis.  To keep your skin glowing all year long, contact our office to discuss a skin care routine that is right for you!

Lose Inches From Your Midsection With Vanquish

“New Year, New You” is usually the motto of many during this time of year. After weeks of parties with delicious food and festive cocktails, many people are now trying to get back on track with diet and exercise. However, some still find it difficult to lose those extra inches brought on by the holiday season even with a healthy lifestyle. If you are one of those people, we want to introduce you to a safe, no-downtime alternative for body contouring called Vanquish.

Vanquish is a revolutionary, non-invasive system designed to deliver energy to the body to eliminate fat cells. Vanquish is a pain-free treatment that has been clinically tested on the abdomen and love handles and proven to be safe and effective. The Vanquish device eliminates fat without even touching the body. It selectively delivers the energy to the fat with virtually no risk of overheating of the skin, muscles or internal organs.

Vanquish treatments are effective without a strict diet or exercise regimen as long as current weight is maintained. Many patients decide to live a healthier lifestyle in order to improve the results they received from the treatments.  The only thing required to prepare your body is proper hydration.  Our patients are instructed to drink plenty of water the day before, the day of and the day after treatment.  This will help rid the body of excess fluid and toxins and aid in metabolic processes.

For optimal results, Dr. Lupo and her patients find it best to receive four 30-minute treatments that are typically scheduled one week apart. While some patients may experience mild redness and warmth after a treatment, these side effects last only minutes to hours and have no effect on daily life.  Improvement to the body may be seen days after the first treatment, but greater results are seen two weeks after the final treatment and continued improvement increased as the body rids itself of fat cells.

If you have troublesome areas on your body that aren’t corrected by diet and exercise, now many be the time to talk to our doctors to see if Vanquish or any of our other body contouring devices are right for you.  To schedule a consultation, call 504-288-2381.

Dr. Lupo was chosen by Allergan to be on the Juvederm Voluma advisory board and to be a trainer of other board certified, core aesthetic physicians to teach them the best practices for this filler.
