Erase Summer Sun Damage

Over time, especially with exposure to the sun and environmental elements, the skin starts to show wear and tear in the form of wrinkles, discoloration and laxity. Skin resurfacing treatments help to restore a more youthful complexion by removing the most damaged outer layers of the skin to reveal healthier skin beneath while encouraging new cell growth.

Skin conditions corrected with resurfacing treatments include:

  • Age spots
  • Dull, blotchy skin
  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Freckles
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Large pores
  • Redness & rosacea
  • Scars from acne, injury or surgery
  • Skin laxity
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Vascular lesions

Skin resurfacing encompasses a variety of treatments designed to renew and revitalize the skin. Depending on the skin type and the skin condition, our dermatological specialists will select one of the following treatments for your needs:

Our non-surgical treatments require little to no downtime but limited sun exposure is essential while the skin is healing. Because these treatments are non-invasive, a series may be needed for optimal results.

Skin resurfacing treatments can reverse the signs of aging, helping you look younger and healthier. When the kids are back in school, let’s get back to you! To learn more about these treatments and to see which one is right for your needs, please contact us at 504-777-3047 or info@drmarylupo.com.

Reverse the Signs of Aging with Filler

Many visible signs of aging can be linked to volume loss. As we age, we lose several substances that support the skin causing lines, folds or hollowness. One way we can reverse these signs of aging is with dermal fillers.

TYPES OF FILLER

Hyaluronic acid filler (Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero, RHA, and Versa) is the most popular filler to help smooth wrinkles, plump the skin, and restore a more youthful appearance. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in our bodies. Its purpose is to lubricate joints and eyes, and to keep the skin supple by binding to water molecules in skin cells. As we age, hyaluronic acid decreases leading to wrinkles, gauntness and dull skin. Treatments with hyaluronic acid filler restore moisture and volume to repair the skin.

Polylactic acid filler (Sculptra) is a synthetic filler that helps stimulate the body’s production of collagen. Collagen is a protein in the skin and works similar to hyaluronic acid in keeping the skin plump.

Calcium hydroxylapatite filler (Radiesse) is naturally found in human bones and is a mineral-like compound. This biosynthetic filler is best for deep lines or hollowness.

AREAS TO TREAT WITH FILLER

When filler first became available almost 20 year ago, it was designed to treat lines and folds around the nose and mouth. Today, there many unique formulas of filler specifically designed to treat aging concerns on different areas of the face and body including:

  • Temples
  • Cheeks
  • Under eyes
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Lips
  • Marionette folds
  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Neck
  • Chest
  • Abdomen
  • Arms
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Knees

Upon injection, fillers provide immediate volume to the treated area. There is little to no downtime and results are clinically proven to last six months or longer. With consistent use, fillers can help produce new collagen for longer-lasting results.

BOTOX vs FILLER

Many patients ask how Botox and fillers are different. Botox works by relaxing muscle movement that leads to wrinkles. Fillers work by injecting a product into the skin to restore volume loss and reduce wrinkles. Both treatments work differently and independently, but together they provide rejuvenation to the entire face.

Acne Awareness Month

June is Acne Awareness Month, so let’s go over the types of acne and ways we can treat breakouts.

Growing up, we always heard that acne only affects teenagers, but now as adults, we wonder why these blemishes have stuck with us through our 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. The fact is that anyone at any age can suffer from acne, and it can look different from one person to the next. Blemishes can appear in the form of blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules (pimples), cysts or nodules on the face and body. There are many causes of acne including hormones, diet, genetics, lifestyle, products and even things like your cellphone and pillowcase!

Acne should never be left untreated because it can lead to dark spots and/or permanent scars. While over-the-counter washes and ointments can control some people’s breakouts, others have to seek medical help for more stubborn or severe cases. After a thorough skin analysis and consultation to understand your medical situation and lifestyle, we customize a treatment protocol, which can include a combination of topical treatments (benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or retinol) and oral medications (antibiotics, Accutane®, spironolactone, low-dose contraceptives). Additional state-of-the-art procedures such as chemical peels, dermal infusion, resurfacing, and laser therapy can efficiently alleviate even severe breakouts.

Acne can be extremely frustrating and embarrassing. Luckily with today’s medicines and devices, no one has to suffer from acne. To schedule a consultation for acne, please contact us at 504-777-3047 or info@drmarylupo.com.

Ask for “The Designer Filler”

Many people want to look younger but are often hesitant to try anti-aging treatments because they are afraid of looking fake or stiff. I never want my patients to look “done,” so that’s why I individualize treatments with the best injectable products. Nicknamed “The Designer Filler,” the RHA Collection is only available in select practices with a reputation for providing exceptional patient care. This line of fillers is the first and only with resilient hyaluronic acid (RHA) designed to adapt to the dynamic movement of the face so that results look beautiful at rest and natural in motion.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is naturally produced by the body to help the skin retain water, structure and volume, but with age, HA diminishes and our skin begins to look wrinkled and crepey. With three formulations of filler, the RHA Collection re-volumizes the skin to provide the best results for an individual patient and their unique needs.

When the FDA approved the RHA Collection in the United States, I was selected as one of the founding practices to evaluate the products prior to market launch. I’ve been injecting the whole line for over a year now, and as you can see from these patients’ results, we are loving these fillers!

Patients may start to see changes as quickly as four weeks after a treatment and will experience the most dramatic results after three months.

Don’t delay… registration ends on April 16, 2021. Contact us today to schedule your CoolSculpting assessment: 504-777-3047 or info@drmarylupo.com.
