Last month we introduced you to QWO (pronounced like “whoa”), the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment for cellulite in women. And now we are excited to begin treating patients with this breakthrough technology!

Many people think that cellulite is caused from excess fat, a poor diet or lack of exercise. When really it’s none of the above. April is Rosacea Awareness Month, so now is the time to become better educated about the signs and symptoms of this common skin condition affecting more than 16 million Americans. Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that may be easily mistaken for acne, eczema or a rash by the untrained eye. There are four subtypes of rosacea: 1. facial redness, 2. bumps and pimples, 3. enlargement of the nose, and 4. eye irritation. Some patients may be affected by more than one subtype. It is important to have a diagnosis by a board certified dermatologist, because without treatment or with incorrect care, rosacea can worsen and leave scarring.

An individualized skin care protocol is needed to treat rosacea. Treatments include oral medication, topical products and/or laser and light therapy. Our Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Excel V devices are highly effective and safe treatments for redness and vascular dilatation seen in rosacea that is not improved by topical and oral medications. These devices are also used to improve the skin’s texture and tone and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Every day at the Lupo Center is skin cancer awareness day – day in and day out, we are checking for suspicious spots even if you’re visiting us for a cosmetic treatment! In the past, the only way to test for melanoma was to biopsy the mole.

Now, Dr. Mary Lupo and Dr. Neil Farnsworth offer a quick, painless and scalpel-free method: DermTech Smart Sticker! Yep, it’s as easy as putting a sticker on your skin and pulling it off!

The proprietary adhesive on the DermTech Smart Sticker is strong enough to pull 1.5 milligrams of tissue from the top layers of your skin (where its genomic information can be accessed), but not so strong that it would cause pain, bleeding or damage to the site. The adhesive lifts the genomic material from the suspicious spot, which is then sent to the DermTech’s Gene Lab for examination.

Acne Are you looking for a new dimension in your skin care routine? Our Morpheus8 treatment uses microneedling plus radiofrequency technology to volumize tissue under the skin for wrinkle reduction, skin tightening and textural correction.

During the treatment, microscopic needles puncture tiny channels into the skin and deliver mild electricity known as radiofrequency.
